ABOUT MEMy name is Kathryn. I am from Dallas, Texas where I'm the content mastery/resource teacher in a parochial school. I serve students with mild to moderate learning disabilities in the 5-8th grades. I have over ten years of teaching experience, all of which have served special education students with various needs of academic support and ability levels. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Elementary Education and in Special Education from Benedictine College in Kansas. I'm currently working towards earning a MS in Special Education, with a focus on High Incidence Disabilities, through the University of Kansas. I hold Texas teaching certifications in both General Education (EC-6) and in Special Education (EC-12).
One of my strengths as an educator is building community among students who sometimes become ostracized due to the way they learn or interact with those around them. As a special educator, I often work with smaller groups of students where I have the pleasure of witnessing a side of their personalities they may not show in the general education setting. Often my classroom becomes a mini community within the larger school community where students know they can be themselves. When I'm not in the classroom I can be found reading a good book, spending time with my family, or traveling. The picture to the left was taken while traveling in the Czech Republic. . |
